Saving Money on the WEB
I've been doing this over a year now and one thing that I think is a great deal are the new "COUPON" or "DEAL" websites that are popping up. Some of the more popular are "GROUPON", "LIVING SOCIAL" and "RESTAURANT.COM". I know there are more but my experience has been with these three and they seem to be very good at what they do.
The thing that many people are not sure of is "WHAT THEY DO" and "HOW THEY DO IT". So here is a small rundown of How Groupon and others make the deals they do. First take the name "GOUPon" a combination of Group and Coupon. So basically this infers that the make deals that consist of getting a GROUP rate on different purchases and because they are so big the companies give them the deal and then they wait for Groupon to meet the minimum number of people needed to get that rate. There is risk on the part of the company however it is minimal due to the fact that Groupon is LARGE and they have always been upfront and honest, at least in my opinion. The other thing they do is make the deals contingent on minimum purchases, some say buy this deal at this amount and you have to make a minimum purchase to get the deal which is what Restaurant.com does normally. SO a $2 gift certificate worth $25 is contingent on you buying a minimum of $50 or $25. In any case these are great deals and sometimes just reading the small print gives you the information to make a good decent buy. Read the Fine print, always read what the details are and lastly GO to the actual Web Site of the OFFERS deal and see what the cost NORMALLY is.
Checking on the normal cost will give you a better understanding of the deal you are getting and if in fact it is a deal.

Testing your ADSENSE Ads to choose which is the best Ad
How do you decide WHICH AD performs the best on your Web Site. One of the best strategies for using Google Adsense to monetize your websites is to find out which Ad performs the best return per click and use that ad. to do this you have to have a way to test different ads. To do this one of the easiest ways is to ad code to your site that allows you to rotate an ad randomly and see which one comes out ahead at the end of the day.
SO if you have two ads each with their own custom channel and you put them in a rotating script which shows each ad to users an equal amount of time you may be able to determine which google adsense ad performs better. Here is the code to do it.
<!-- google ads -->
<script type="text/javascript">
var random_number = Math.random();
if (random_number < .5)
{
<!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXX";
/* ADS-TEST1 */
google_ad_slot = "8352240308";
google_ad_width = 336;
google_ad_height = 280;
//-->
}else{
<!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXX";
/* ADS-TEST2 */
google_ad_slot = "3075656559";
google_ad_width = 300;
google_ad_height = 250;
//-->
}
</script>
<!-- google ads -->
This code rotates two different ads with different channels based on a 50/50 randomness. the rotation code is in blue, the RED are elements that are specific to your account and custom channels. Here are my results from Adsense.
AD CHANNEL [Vies] [Clicks] [CTR] [CPC] [RPM] [Earnings]

| Some simple analysis can now show that two things happened here. 1. Test Ad #1 got more clicks BUT Test Ad #2 paid more PER CLICK (CPC). |
